A Close Look at Close Ups! #3

The 3rd in Dad's Abstract series...

"Abstract painting is relatively free of rules - just enough to ensure a durable final surface and sound chemical combinations. I use acrylic paints and inks for their bold colours in the first layer. These are modified by other water-based paints such as distempers, tempera (with egg), casein (with milk protein) and dry organic pigments. Ground earths and rocks are fixed to the surface with acrylic resin and often metal leaf is applied at this stage. Then the oil painting is carried out using knives, brushes, feathers, rollers and even a hypodermic syringe! Finally various varnishes and resins are used to protect and stabilise the painting." ‪
