A Close Look at Close Ups! #2

The 2nd in the series taking a look into John's Abstract techniques... #2 "The simple rule I adhere to for oils is known as 'fat over lean'. A 'lean' and quickly created thin underpainting using turpentine suggests the drawing and approximate darks and lights in the composition. This is followed by the more robust 'fat' knife and brush colour work - fat because the thicker finished layer has a greater oil or resin content."

This abstract called Marias will be available on here soon
